Hello, Gorgeous!

A few months ago our friend who works at AG&M, our granite/marble supplier, called to tell us he had just received a shipment of gorgeous carrara marble. I hustled out there as quickly as I could to take a look at them because they were really big slabs- meaning with some luck we might be able to avoid an ugly seam in the middle of the peninsula.  Sure enough, they were fabulous so we put our names on two of the slabs.

Today I got to go out to our fabricator's yard to determine the cuts for the peninsula, island and other two counters. It was great to see the marble again, but man it was a lot of pressure! Some of it had veining, some of it was more speckled. I really had to try to envision what it will look like once it is installed. I hope I did a good job! I can't wait to see it on Saturday! (And the really good news is that the slabs were so big that there won't be ANY seams!!)

More Cabinets

This week the uppers on the cabinets went in as well as the built-in in the playroom, the drop zone cabinets and all the bathroom cabinets. The doors haven't been put on and they haven't been painted, but I can already tell it is going to look awesome!

Floors

Oooh doggie a lot is going on at the house this week! Today I met with the builder to determine the locations of towel holders and hooks etc. While I was at the house the cabinet guys were there in addition to the gutter company. It's coming together!

Last week Eric and I had to tackle the biggest question of this job- what color should we stain the wood floors (3 inch red oak)?? I think early on I got the impression Eric wanted light colored floors and he got the impression I wanted dark floors, but in the end we agreed on the same perfect medium brown. It looks so gorgeous! We are extremely happy with our selection.

Here are the swatches we looked at. It started with the one on the top right. We wanted it "less purple" so they did the second one over. Too light- can we make it darker? Top left- hrm, a little too orange. Bottom right- a little too green. Next one over is a combo of the one above it with the two on the right. Almost there- we pondered this one for a good bit of time. The poor flooring guys were just waiting on us- but man, it was a big decision! In the end we wanted it a tad darker so they did 50% top right and 50% bottom right, resulting in the sample on the bottom left. Perfect! We loved it.

Here it is post- polyurethane.

And here it is nice and dry and satiny. LOVE!

This weekend part of the kitchen cabinets went in! We are so excited- so far they look great and we can't wait to see how it all comes together.

January Update

Besides the installation of lighting, not a whole lot has gone on at the house in the past month- hence the lack of updates! Things are going to get rolling, though, so it was time for an update!

At the end of December the majority of the lighting went in! Everything looks awesome! Love our porch light:

And our fans/kitchen lighting:

And our West Elm dining room fixture. Can't wait to see it all come together with furniture!

Since the beginning of construction the house was either blisteringly hot inside or freezing! I think the kids started to dread going to the house because for the past few months it's been colder inside the house than outside. Today, though, for the first time ever it was WARM inside! The heat was on! It was such a treat :) The floors are going to be sanded and stained next week, so we had a chance to look around the house today in our socks (it got a nice clean prior to the floor work that will be done) and had a blast going around the house testing out all of the light switches :)

Hopefully I will keep on top of updates- lots of fun stuff will be happening in February! We are estimating an end of the month completion. The next big thing is the beginning of the cabinet installation and picking out the flooring color. We will see how that goes- it is the #1 thing Eric and I have disagreed about! Hopefully we will agree on a color that makes us both happy :) Stay tuned!

Progress!

So much progress is being made on the house this week! Here are some photos:

First Floor Guest Bath. The grout will be a light grey color.

My "office" closet. Love!

Anderson's bedroom. He insisted on it being green. After trying out a buunch of samples we decided to go with the color of their current playroom and I'm so glad.

Kid's bathroom.

View from kid's bath to Anderson's room. Loving the trim!

Emery wanted her room to be pink (surprise, surprise!) and she definitely got her wish! We got to the house just after sunset so who knows what it will look like in the day but it sure was pink! She LOVED it, though, so that's all that matters. :)

Updates!

The house is coming along! The drywall was floated and taped and then we had to wait for it to dry. Kind of hard when we were experiencing some very cold, wet days!

Once everything was dry the guys textured the walls and this week the trim went up! We are LOVE LOVE LOVING it. So pretty :)

The shelving and hanging bars have been installed in the closets. This house is going to have so much storage. I'm so excited!

Our fabulous doors went in. We are so glad we splurged for the more expensive ones! They are going to look so awesome once the doorknobs are on there!

Couldn't remember if I'd posted a picture of our gorgeous back patio. Our architect did an amazing job designing it, and our builder did an awesome job building it! Those squares will eventually be covered in screens that can be removed. We can't wait to spend time out there!

This week we've been working on picking paint colors. The only room giving me trouble is Anderson's room! He wants it to be green, but I'm having such a hard time find a good green that isn't too blue or too limey. I'll post our final selections once we have made them!
